The Natural Deodorant That Works

The Natural Deodorant That Works

Welcome back to Haley’s Beauty Room! For the past few months I have been trying out a natural deodorant. I have been nervous to switch over to one, as I wasn’t sure how well it would work.

I had this horrible image in my head of sweating everywhere and my body odor scaring people off like that episode of Spongebob. My fellow 90’s babies understand, “I’m ugly and I’m proud!”

Anyway, after reading up on some benefits to natural deodorant (and basically being terrified of using regular antiperspirant) I finally made the switch. Before I get into my favorite natural deodorant ever, let’s check out some benefits and reasons why you should switch to the au natural deodorant train.

Natural vs. Antiperspirant

First, a deodorant just controls odor, while an antiperspirant actually stops the sweat. Most products you see on that market like Degree, Dove, Suave, etc. are all antiperspirant deodorants. Antiperspirants contain aluminum to plug your sweat glands and therefore stop sweat. However, there have been talks that aluminum through deodorants can cause breast cancer. These mainstreams antiperspirants also just contain other not so good ingredients like parabens and synthetic fragrance.

Natural deodorants do not contain any synthetic of potentially toxic ingredients. What is important to remember is that because natural deodorants don’t contain harmful ingredients like aluminum, they aren’t going to stop sweat. Their main purpose is to deodorize, hence deodorant.

Why I Switched

Basically after doing some research (the same things I listed above), I decided that because I have become more conscience of my other beauty products, I really needed to do that with a deodorant too. I’ve seen so many people switch and have good experiences that I really just wanted to give it a go.

What Worked (and what didn’t)

When I first began my natural deodorant journey, I started with Schmidt’s Rose + Vanilla Deodorant Stick. This can be found at Target and smells absolutely divine.

However, this actually made my underarm area breakout (gross, I know), so I needed to stop using it. It also really needs to be warmed up a bit on the skin for it to spread out.

I then switched over to the star of this post. My Lavanila Sport Luxe Natural Deodorant

Final Thoughts

This product has no aluminum, no parabens, and no harsh chemicals. It smells super fresh and its very easy to apply. I actually really like the shape of this product and the container. The fresh smell lasts all day and really does deodorize.

When first using a natural deodorant, you will be upset by the fact that you will notice the sweat. You’ll be like what the heck why are my underarms so wet?! I promise you this feeling will subside and you will love the effects. I have definitely noticed that my underarms are softer, clearer, and all around look healthier.

All in all I love this product. I definitely want to branch out and try some of their other items, including their perfume. I highly recommend this deodorant if you are new to the natural side of things, you will not be disappointed!
