Welcome back to Haley’s Beauty Room! Today I want to discuss something that is very requested by a lot of my followers. How to perfect the no makeup, makeup look. This type of look is something that I typically go for when I am going out and about running errands, heading in to the office, or just don’t want to wear a ton of makeup, but still need to look refreshed.
I am going to go over my top tips for you on how you can perfect this look and what you need to avoid. This look needs to appear effortless, like you “woke up like dis.”
If you were blessed with beautiful skin, for this step you might just want to go with a tinted moisturizer or even just spot conceal certain areas. If you’re like the majority of the world and want more coverage, try taking your favorite foundation and mixing in a little moisturizer to sheer out the coverage and give you a healthy glow.
Some of my fave picks for this step include the First Aid Beauty Hello FAB Triple Protection Skin Tint. This product actually gives a decent amount of coverage but looks so amazing on the skin. It also contains SPF 30 to protect your complexion!
If you’re looking for more coverage that will last longer on your skin, try the Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Foundation. This product is water based, so it’s super lightweight and looks flawless on the skin. Plus, it lasts up to 24 hours and contains SPF 30.
Use a light hand for this step and try to make your base look as natural as possible. As for your concealer, again, use a light hand and only use the smallest amount possible to give light coverage.
I’m obsessed with the Maybelline Fit Me concealer, as it gives me the coverage my dark circles need, but looks super natural and flawless on the skin. Plus, it brightens areas that need it and gives my skin a healthy glow.
You can either pat this in with your ring finger, or use a damp beauty sponge. This brings some hydration back to the area and will soak up any excess product, making your appearance more natural.
Unless you have very oily skin, I would say you should either skip this step or be extremely light handed. When I do No Makeup Makeup looks, I typically only take a small amount of powder to set my under eye concealer and then use the excess on that brush for the rest of my face.
I love to use the Hourglass Ambient Powder, as this powder works with all different types of lighting to give your skin the most flattering appearance. It smooths out fine lines, pores, and texture. Plus, it brightens dark under eyes so well!
If you have oily skin, use a light hand and dust a little bit of mattifying setting powder in your most oily areas, typically it would be the T-zone. The Too Faced Peach Perfect powder is perfect that!
As for blush and bronzer, you want something very natural looking as well. On a daily basis when I do this look, I go for the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer. This bronzer has a satin finish, making it look amazing on the skin. It truly is buttery and blends out like a dream.
The color selection is very flattering and the powder contains blurring pigments. Only place this product on the outer perimeter of your face. You want to look sun kissed, not made up!
When going for blush, I tend to go for a light, glowy blush. I love the Milani Baked Blushes, as they give the perfect flush of color, but if you want a matte/satin blush, go for the Ofra Cosmetics Pressed Blushes.
Again, be very light handed! You don’t want to look like you’re wearing blush, only that you have a perfect flush of color and healthy cheeks!
When it comes to highlighter, I’m sure this step would be disputed by many. I personally cannot leave the house without highlighter, it’s a necessity to me. The trick to this step is to not go for a blinding, shimmery, or glittery highlight. Although I wish it were true, no one is born with glittery cheeks.
For this step of my no makeup makeup, I go with the Hourglass Ambient powders again. I use this on the cheekbones, bridge of my nose, inner corners of my eyes, brow bone, cupid’s bow, and chin.
Using it on those areas doesn’t give me a traditional highlight, instead it gives me a “lit from within” glow that looks very natural and fresh.
This step is very minimal, as with the other steps. I do not take a pencil or pomade to define my brows. Instead, I only take a little bit of tinted brow gel to define them slightly, but not give them a done up appearance.
My favorite gel for this is the Essence Make Me Brow Gel. It will keep your brows in place, but also contains little fibers to thicken them up a bit. Plus, it’s only $2.99!
For a No Makeup, Makeup look, I do not use any eyeshadow. As soon as you apply eyeshadow, that can throw off the whole look! Instead, the highlighter on the brow bone and inner corner spice up the eyes just enough.
You can also use the smallest amount of your bronzer in the crease to define the eyes slightly.
For your mascara, I say never go for a black mascara, but instead try a brown or black- brown one. This won’t appear as harsh on the eyes, but you’ll still get definition. My favorite black brown mascara comes from L’Oreal. It’s the ever popular Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara.
This product will separate your lashes, provide volume, and give your eyes a fresh and awake look. Plus, it will last all day without smudging!
For your lips I always go with a tinted balm or even just chapstick. If your lips are naturally very pigmented, just throw on a clear balm to give them hydration and a bit of plump.
If you’d like a little bit of color, go for the Vaseline Rosy Lips. This product will keep your lips hydrated for hours, while also giving some shine and natural color.
This, to me, is probably the most important step in a No Makeup, Makeup look. Using setting spray will not only keep your makeup locked in to place, but it will allow all of your powders to melt in to the skin, making your look even more natural.
My favorite setting spray of all time is still the Ofra Cosmetics Make Up Fixer Spray. This makes your makeup look beautiful, keeps it in place all day, and provides just the right amount of hydration. This spray is perfect for all skin types and you get a ton of bang for your buck!
Like I’ve mentioned throughout this whole post, keep everything light. Use as little of product as possible. The whole point of this look is to make it appear that you’re not wearing any makeup.
It’s also important to remember that you can omit any of my steps as you see fit. You do not need to do everything I mentioned to get your desired look. Makeup is totally up to personal preference and you do what feels right!
