Best of Skincare 2017

Welcome back to Haley’s Beauty Room! So I recently ran a poll on my Twitter and Facebook pages to see which “Best Of” post you all wanted to read first, and Skincare was the winner! If you would ever like to vote in future polls, go follow me on Twitter @haleywadel or ‘Like” my Facebook page, Haley’s Beauty Room.

All of these items are products that I have repeatedly used throughout the entire year of 2017 and what continue to be favorites of mine in to the New Year. Some of these items were released during 2017, while others just joined my personal collection during the year.

I have a ton of products to share with you, so grab a glass of wine and a snack, because we are in it for the long haul honey!

Makeup Removers

Obviously one of, if not the, most important step of a skincare routine is taking your makeup off. I said it before and I will say it again, YOU NEED TO TAKE YOUR MAKEUP OFF. Do not go to sleep with it on, you will regret it in the morning.

I have two makeup removers that were my jam this past year.

Neutrogena Fragrance Free Makeup Wipes

Fragrance Free Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes 25ct - Google Chrome_2018-01-10_08-54-25

These wipes will remove any trace of makeup from your face. They offer many choices, such as calming, sensitive, original, but my personal favorite is the fragrance free. It just feels better on my skin and does a great job of removing makeup quickly.

I purchased mine at Ulta Beauty, but you can pick these up anywhere that sells Neutrogena.

Dermalogica Precleanse

PreCleanse Ulta Beauty - Google Chrome_2018-01-10_08-57-25

If you are more in to an oil/cleanser makeup remover, this is one of the best. I had a small sample bottle that I received of this and I took this traveling just to save space. Oh my goodness this deep cleans, removes all makeup, and feels great on the skin. You could just use this as a cleanser and be good to go, but I still cleanse afterwards because I am crazy about my skin being clean ha.

Dermalogica states this about their product: “This plant-based cleansing oil, fortified with Olive and Kukui oils, thoroughly melts layers of excess sebum (oil), sunscreen, waterproof make-up, environmental pollutants and residual skin products that build-up during the day. When water is added it transforms this hydrophilic (water-loving) formula into a milky emulsion, easily rinsing away oil-based debris from the skin’s surface.”

Cleansers

Korres Greek Yoghurt Foaming Cleanser

Greek Yoghurt Foaming Cream Cleanser - KORRES Sephora - Google Chrome_2018-01-10_09-05-22

I honestly don’t know what I was using before this cleanser, as nothing has been able to compete with this since I purhcased it. This cleanser is a dream for anyone who suffers from dry or sensitive skin. Or even if you have a lot of redness.

This formula is cream to foam and is totally soap free. This luxurious cleanser made with Greek yogurt is rich in proteins, minerals, and vitamins to gently cleanse while nourishing—leaving skin soft and supple, and reducing redness.

You can purchase this product here.

Toners

The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution

The Ordinary

If you suffer from texture or uneven tone, you need this toner. Formulated with glycolic acid, Tasmanian Pepperberry, and Aloe Vera, this toner is great to use as a nightly treatment. It also preps the skin so your serums will penetrate the skin deeper.

Not to mention you get a ton of product and this bottle only costs $8.70. Clinical strength ingredients for a less than drugstore price!

You can purchase this item through Beautylish or the DECIEM website here.

Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner

Multi-Active Toner Ulta Beauty - Google Chrome_2018-01-10_09-06-50

If you need a daily toner or one for morning use, I highly recommend this one from Dermalogica. This toner provides critical hydration and moisture binding humectants to perfectly prep the skin for moisture intake. It contains Lavender, which is a natural antiseptic, and Aloe Vera to soothe the skin.

I use this every morning after cleansing and my Glycolic Acid toner every night after cleansing.

This product can be purchased here.

Serums

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid + B5

The Ordinary2

Many hydrating products claim to have Hyaluronic Acid, but most are in such little forms that they provide almost no benefit. Enter in The Ordinary. This formulation combines low-, medium- and high-molecular weight HA, as well as a next-generation HA cross-polymer at a combined concentration of 2% for multi-depth hydration. This system is supported with the addition of Vitamin B5 which also enhances surface hydration.

I use this morning and night after toning and my skin has never looked so supple or hydrated. No matter your skin type, this would be a perfect serum to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out.

You can purchase this product here.

The Ordinary “Buffet”

The Ordinary3

Another amazing serum from The Ordinary is their “Buffet” serum. This formula combines a comprehensive array of studied technologies to target multiple signs of aging at once. This pure formula containing Matrixyl, a quality anti aging peptide, will help with fine lines and wrinkles. Plus, it adds an extra layer of hydration.

After using this I have noticed an improvement in the fine lines in my eye area. As I’m only 24, I don’t have many other signs of aging, but it is important to start an anti-aging routine, at least by the time you are 25 to get a head start.

You can purchase this item here.

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum

Truth Serum® - OLEHENRIKSEN Sephora - Google Chrome_2018-01-10_09-17-03

If you need a serum containing Vitamin C and Collagen, this is my favorite serum ever. This will visibly brighten your appearance, firm, and hydrate. Although not part of the claims, I feel like this also helps combat hormonal acne as well as shrink pores.

I have tried many vitamin c serums, but I always come back to this because I get the best results.

This item can be purchased here.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Serum

Ultra Repair® Hydrating Serum - First Aid Beauty Sephora - Google Chrome_2018-01-10_09-17-59

Another great option for anti-aging and hydration is from First Aid Beauty. This serum will deeply hydrate and soften the look of fine lines and wrinkles. It also contains Collodial Oatmeal to soothe the skin. If you suffer from redness or skin issues, this serum will not irritate that, but instead help to fix it.

It is a little pricey, which is why I have opted for The Ordinary products as of late, but still an amazing choice.

You can purhcase this product here.

Mario Badescu Vitamin C Serum

Vitamin C Serum Ulta Beauty - Google Chrome_2018-01-10_09-13-01

If you just want a Vitamin C Serum that is incredibly potent, go for this one from Mario Badescu. This serum will retexturize your skin and reduce signs of aging. It is also going to brighten and eliminate discoloration. Sodium hyaluronate and collagen combine to rehydrate and plump-revealing a smoother, firmer complexion.

This serum is very strong, so you should only apply every other night. Do not use in conjunction with other vitamin c products, it can be too harsh on your skin.

You can purchase this serum here.

Oils

Skyn Iceland Arctic Face Oil

Arctic Face Oil Ulta Beauty - Google Chrome_2018-01-10_09-12-31

If you have irritated and dehydrated skin, it would be wise to add a facial oil in to your routine. This option from Skyn Iceland is one of the best oils I have ever used. This is a daily age-defying omega face oil that replenishes natural moisture while sealing in round-the-clock hydration to help balance, revive and rejuvenate skin.

This product contains mainly Camelina oil, with Vitamin E and Sunflower oil. This oil has given me hydration and soothed some of my redness. This is also great to mix in with foundations for a dewy effect.

This product can be purchased here.

The Ordinary 100% Cold Pressed Virgin Marula Oil

The Ordinary4

If you need a super heavy nighttime oil, Marula oil is the way to go. My favorite is from The Ordinary. Marula oil offers antioxidants, hydrates the skin, and is claimed to help restore a radiant tone. This formula contains only cold-pressed virgin African Marula oil that is 100% unrefined.

This oil can be used on the hair and body and provides very intense hydration. I use this every night and with it all other skincare products seem to work better.

This item can be purchased here.

Moisturizers

No. 7 Beautiful Skin Night Cream

Screen Shot 2018-01-10 at 5.21.55 PM.png

My absolute favorite night cream of the year came from Boots No. 7. The Beautiful Skin Night Cream for Dry/Very Dry skin is lightweight, but will give you hydration all night. This formula contains glycerin, shea butter, and ceramides, which help lock in moisture and boost radiance.

At the end of my nighttime routine, I take a small amount of this all over my face and my products will stay locked in. This cream is very fragrant, but has not irritated my sensitive skin.

This product is quite affordable and can be purchased here.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Deep Moisture Balm

Ultra Facial Deep Moisture Balm - Kiehl's Since 1851 Sephora - Google Chrome_2018-01-10_09-22-15

I have talked about this product before in a favorites post, but my favorite daytime moisturizer of the year was definitely the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Deep Moisture Balm. You need such a little amount of product to acheive hydration, plus it nver feels greasy.

This should only be used by someone who is very dry, or if they want a heavy cream for at night. If you are oily, try going for the original Ultra Facial Moisturizer.

This item can be purchased at any Kiehl’s counter or here.

Clinique Rich Eye Cream

All About Eyes Rich Ulta Beauty - Google Chrome_2018-01-10_09-28-56

The only eye cream that I essentially used all year was the All About Eyes Rich from Clinique. This cream saved my dry under eyes and has totally perfected my concealer application. I can’t say that I notice a difference in my under eye circles, but mine are also hereditary and no cream will help that.

If you need a heavy eye cream go for this. Otherwise the original All About Eyes is a fabulous option for those who have more normal to oily skin. This item is allergy tested and 100% fragrance free.

This item can be purchased here.

Mario Badescu Lavender Facial Spray

Screen Shot 2018-01-10 at 5.12.14 PM.png

This product isn’t necessarily a moisturizer on its own, but I use it throughout the day to refresh my makeup as well as a finishing step in my skincare routine. I have also used this spray as a toner when my skin is feeling very irritated or red.

This is a brand new product from Mario Badescu. Mario is famous for their rosewater spray, but now they have this chamomile and lavender option. I personally think this is their best one yet. This spray will calm and soothe your skin, while also containing vitamin c to brighten. I love using this at night because it calms you down for sleep and just feels great on this skin.

It is suitable for all skin types. This is super affordable as well and can purchased here.

Masks

Origins Drink-Up Intensive Overnight Mask

Screen Shot 2018-01-10 at 5.13.02 PM.png

I think face masks are my favorite thing on this earth. Using masks regularly will just transform your skin. Like this quenching option from Origins. I absolutely love this mask during the winter to give me extra hydration.

I have blogged about this mask before and how amazing it is. This mask with avocado and apricot kernel oil will build up your skin’s moisture reservoirs to keep you hydrated for up to 24 hours. It smells great and a little goes a long way. Will definitely keep purchasing in 2018!

This mask can be purchased here.

Skinfood Freshmade Masks

Screen Shot 2018-01-10 at 5.14.00 PM.png

Another great line of masks that I have written about come from the Korean skincare line Skinfood. These Freshmade masks use the power of food to revitalize the skin. my top two favorites are the watermelon for soothing, which this is also a dupe for the Glow Recipe mask. I also love the coconut mask for hydration.

These are super affordable and are often on sale. You can purchase these masks here.

TonyMoly Master Lab Ceramide Mask Sheet

Screen Shot 2018-01-10 at 5.15.58 PM.png

I think every mask on my 2017 favorites list I have previously written about. That’s how you know I truly love them and will continue to use. Another great mask from a Korean line, TonyMoly, is this Master Lab Ceramide Moisture Care. I’m sure you will see a trend with these masks that they are all for dry skin.

Ceramides are amazing for moisturizing and help build a protective layer on your skin. This mask is affordable and I will always have a few in my drawer.

This mask can be purchased here.

Karuna Hydrating Face Sheet Mask

Screen Shot 2018-01-10 at 5.16.25 PM.png

Hands down the best sheet mask of 2017 for me was the hydrating mask from Karuna. These masks hydrate so well and your face will feel plump and soft for days after using.

This mask will also exfoliate away dead skin to brighten and eliminate a dull appearance. I love these and I highly recommend for anyone who needs a skin pick me up.

Available for purchase here.

Earth Therapeutics Hydrogel Collagen Under Eye Patch

Screen Shot 2018-01-10 at 5.17.16 PM.png

Of course I would have an under eye patch on this list! These collagen infused patches from Earth Therapeutics are soothing, hydrating, and work well on puffiness and dark circles. Like I said above, I have herediatry dark circles so no product will get rid of them, but these patches help reduce their appearance a lot.

I can leave these on for hours and never be irritated. I have also accidentally left them on all night. My eye area is more hydrated and fine lines have been reduced since using these.

Highly recommend for anyone who is on the go and needs a pick me up. These can be purchased here.

The Ordinary BHA + AHA Peel

The Ordinary5

My last mask of my favorites is from The Ordinary and is a chemical peel. Perfect for anyone that needs deep exfoliation, but doesn’t want to irritate their skin with harsh physical exfoliants.

This combined 32% AHA/BHA solution offers deeper exfoliation to help fight visible blemishes and for improved skin radiance. The formula also improves the appearance of skin texture and reduces the look of fine lines with continued use.

I use this twice a week in place of my glycolic acid toner. My blackheads have significantly decreased and my skin is more smooth and radiant.

As always, this is a great price coming from The Ordinary. This item can be purchased here.

Tools

Clarisonic

Screen Shot 2018-01-10 at 5.23.08 PM.png

I know this is super expensive, but using a Clarisonic will change your skincare game. A Clarisonic cleanses six times more than just using your hands alone. If you wear makeup often or just have congested skin, this will help deeply clean your pores.

I use the cashmere brush head and my skin just loves it. I only use it once a day max, sometimes only a few times a week since I have sensitive skin. Bottom line, this is amazing, totally worth the money, and I will continue to use this in 2018.

There are many Clarisonic options and all items can be explored here.

Body Care

Lush Scrubee

Screen Shot 2018-01-10 at 5.21.16 PM.png

We will keep this one short and sweet since I have raved about it many times. This in shower exfoliator/lotion bar is something I use every single day and my skin looks amazing. It gently exfoliates while leaving behind a layer of shea butter to offer all day hydration.

I love this and will always use this. This item can be purchased at Lush here.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream

Ultra Repair® Cream Intense Hydration - First Aid Beauty Sephora - Google Chro_2018-01-10_09-17-42

Another item I have raved about for all over hydration is from First Aid Beauty. If you have sensitive skin or suffer from eczema, psoriasis, etc., you totally need this. The fragrance free formula is lightweight, provides intense hydration, and helps calm my eczema.

It is free from Alcohol, Artificial Colorants, Artificial Fragrance, Lanolin, Mineral Oil, Parabens, Petrolatum, Phthalates, Propylene Glycol, and Sulfates.

I have written about this before, so if you would like to know more, just check out my previous posts. This item can be purchased here.

Aveeno Skin Relief Gentle Scent Body Wash

Screen Shot 2018-01-10 at 5.20.33 PM.png

Favorite body wash that intensely hydrates while smelling delicious and not irritating my skin is from Aveeno. This skin relief option is amazing year round, but especially during the dry winter months.

Love this, doesn’t irritate my eczema, and I will always have a bottle of this. It also soap and dye free.

This body wash can be purchased at any local drugstore selling Aveeno or here.

Kiehl’s Creme de Corps

Creme de Corps Soy Milk & Honey Whipped Body Butter - Kiehl's Since 1851 Sepho_2018-01-10_09-21-15

Best body butter in the entire world. I am not even joking. This body butter from Kiehl’s is heavy, but yet also lightweight. Beautifully fragranced, without be overpowering or skin irritating. Most importantly, the most hydrating body butter on this planet.

If you like sweeter smells and need hydration for your body, get this ASAP from Kiehl’s.

This item can be purchased here.

Skinfix Hand Relief Cream

Screen Shot 2018-01-10 at 5.18.23 PM.png

The absolute only hand cream that I will use is the Hand Relief Cream from Skinfix. This brand was a late in the game 2017 discovery for me. But since trying a few products, I am absolutely in love, this product is no exception.

Skinfix caters to those who have sensiive skin or skin issues. This hand cream is actually formulated for those who have diabetes and is clinically proven to be safe and effective for their skin.

I love this product because it doesn’t irritate my eczema, but it hydrates so well. This item is also free of fragrance, urea, soy, gluten, parabens, & phthalates.

I will always use this for my hands and I can’t wait to try more Skinfix products! This cream can be purchased here.

Lip Care

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

Lip Sleeping Mask - LANEIGE Sephora - Google Chrome_2018-01-10_09-30-38

You probably will have seen this lip mask on everyone’s favorites by now, but that is due to the fact that this mask is no joke incredible. If you wear a lot of matte lip products, have dry lips, or just need some TLC in the lip area, you have to have this mask.

I put this on every single night and now during the day I hardly ever have to apply chap stick. My lip products have also gone on smoother and I don’t need to use a lip scrub as much. A little goes a long way at night and I have even used this as a balm during the day.

This product is great and I will definitely repurchase once I run out! This lip mask can be purchased here.

Skinfix Lip Repair Balm

Screen Shot 2018-01-10 at 5.19.13 PM.png

When I do need a balm, I always reach for my Skinfix lip repair balms. For Christmas I actually got their sugar & spice set, which contains 5 different seasonal scented lip balms. these balms are 40% coconut oil and give you the lasting hydration that your lips need.

Plus, these are free from the bad stuff and smell delicious! No synthetic flavor, color, gluten, parabens, phthalates or preservatives. These balms can be purchased here.

Memebox Lip Oil

Nooni Water Blending Lip Oil Ulta Beauty - Google Chrome_2018-01-10_09-16-04

My final lip product of the year and final product of this list, is the amazing Memebox Nooni Water Blending Lip Oil. This silky, non-sticky oil sinks in to instantly moisturize, soften, and plump your lips.

It also contains 9 different oils: Sunflower, Olive, Jojoba, Argan, Macadamia, Green Tea, Soy Bean, Ginger, and Spearmint. Natural AHAs from Apple Water exfoliate chapped and dry lips, while Mint Extract soothes and alleviates. I absolutely adore this lip oil and constantly use this before makeup application and throughout the day.

This lip oil can be purchased here.
