Welcome back to Haley’s Beauty Room! As Winter is approaching and skin is drying up, I wanted to give you my top picks for primers that provide either radiance, hydration, or even both! These are primers that I use year round for my dry skin, but if you have combination to oily skin, these might be great for you this Winter.
These primers range in price from drugstore to prestige, so you can find something that fits right in your budget. I have found that these primers work well with all of my foundations and stay true to their claims. So if you’re looking for a new makeup primer to bring your skin back to life and have you glowing for the Holidays, then keep on reading.
It Cosmetics Feel the Moment
First up we have the It Cosmetics Feel the Moment anti-aging ultra hydrating sensory awakening primer serum. This primer will give you a spa in a bottle experience. This product would be amazing for more mature skin due to the anti-aging properties and hydrolyzed collagen.
This primer really hydrates my skin and creates an incredibly smooth canvas. The essential oils help calm me on my stressful mornings and my makeup always applies beautifully after I use this.
You can also just apply this as a serum in your skincare routine or use alone. Some days when I look really tired and don’t want to wear makeup I apply this just under my eyes. It brightens my dark circles and helps alleviate fine lines and dryness.
Here are the claims from It Cosmetics: “Developed with plastic surgeons, Feel The Moment Anti-Aging Ultra Hydrating Sensory Awakening Primer Serum is a true sensory spa experience in a bottle! Caviar extract, hydrolyzed collagen, hyaluronic acid, peptides and silk all work to nourish, hydrate, prep and prime the skin, while vitamins A, C & E, deep ocean water, argan, jojoba and avocado oil infusions mean skin stays soft, supple and younger looking! Plus balancing essential oils allow you to take a deep breath and start your day and your skin off right!”
This retails for $38 and you get 1 fl. oz. That doesn’t seem like a lot of product, but I only really need half a pump to cover my entire face evenly.
Milani Prime Light
On the other end of the price spectrum we have the Milani Prime Light Primer. This is a strobing and pore-minimizing primer that also hydrates and extends the life of your makeup.
This really does blur the look of pores while still giving your face a ton of radiance. You can also use this as a foundation primer or on top of foundation for the strobing effect. Your skin will be brighter and smoother.
Best part about this product, the price. That’s right, this primer is only $10 and can be purchased at your local drugstore.
L’Oréal Lumi Primer
Another drugstore option and probably a true OG from the drugstore is the L’Oréal Studio Secrets Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer. This primer will provide you a ton of luminosity and radiance, it’s ridiculous. It smooths your skin to perfection and tones any discoloration.
This is one of those primers where you can really see the glow, even after you have put on the rest of your makeup. It also doubles as a liquid highlighter for a natural look.
Only downside to this product is that you don’t get a full fluid ounce like you do with the other products. It is also more expensive for being a drugstore item. This retails for $12.99 and you get 0.68 oz.
Urban Decay Optical Illusion
If you are looking for great hydration that gives you a huge smoothing effect, then look no further than Urban Decay’s Optical Illusion Complexion Primer. I would say that this is the only primer on the list that doesn’t specifically give you a ton of radiance or glow. However, it is on this list because it contains a blend of argan, rosehip and meadowfoam seed oils to moisturize. It also contains vitamin E to condition your skin.
The biggest effect that you will get from this primer is the blurring effect. This completely erases fine lines and pores. The slight pink tint will also slightly illuminate the skin. It dries down to a powdery, matte finish, but it never looks cakey or dry on the skin.
My makeup goes on so well when I use this primer and my skin looks like porcelain. I like to pair this with one of the other primers on the list if I am going for a super radiant look.
On the more expensive side, you get 0.98 oz. of product for $34. I actually found a travel size at Ulta for half of the price, which has lasted me forever. I recommend you try and find it in the smaller size first if you are interested.
NYX Honey Dew Me Up
A newcomer to the group, but not any less impressive is the NYX Cosmetics Honey Dew Me Up Skin Serum & Primer. If you suffer from dry skin and discoloration then you 100% need to try this primer. This primer is infused with honey, gold and collagen and reduces redness. Its light reflective gold flecks will give you luminous skin all day long.
As with the It Cosmetics primer, this also doubles as a serum, meaning you can use it in your skincare routine or wear alone. If you are having a makeup free day, this will make your skin look amazing.
This primer also dries down to a tacky finish, which is great because that gives your makeup something to adhere to so it will last all day. I pair this primer with the Urban Decay primer to get a glowy, smooth, radiant finish.
This is also more expensive for a drugstore item, but I would justify it as it is a primer and a serum. This product is $16.99 for 0.68 oz. As with many of the others, a little will go a long way. After applying this, make sure you wait a few minutes for the product to fully dry.
No. 7 Airbrush Away
To finish off this list, I wanted to end with a hydrating and radiance boosting primer. I am talking about the No. 7 Airbrush Away Radiance Boosting Primer. This will have your skin looking radiant and dewy, even during the dry Winter months. This primer also has a pink reflex in it to help illuminate the skin.
This primer is light diffusing and smoothes any texture that you may have. This product also claims to keep makeup looking fresh for 12 hours. It’s a dream for those of you with sensitive skin as this is hypo-allergenic.
This primer can be purchased at your local drugstore or Ulta Beauty for $19.99.
What primers do you like for radiance? Any you would recommend to me? Let me know in the comments!
